This was placed in The British Museum in 2005, accompanied by an authentic looking information label and was there for three days before anyone realised something was amiss. The reverse has a copy of the text from the information label that was originally placed with the wall art; leaving no space to write a personalised message or stamp. This product is part of a range to accompany the Museum's exhibition. I object: Ian Hislops search for dissent. The Citi exhibition I object: Ian Hislops search for dissent (6 September 2018 20 January 2019) explores the idea that questioning authority, dissenting and generally objecting are an integral part of what makes us human.
Weve invited Private Eye editor, Ian Hislop (the one from Have I Got News For You), to handpick a range of objects for the exhibition that explore the idea of dissent, subversion and satire. This history in 100(ish) objects shows that people have always challenged orthodox views in order to enable change.
